Home Business Opportunities – How to Detect a Scam
When it comes to doing business online, there is always a risk and fear of getting scammed. This fear is often the reason many people are still hesitant to try and start a home business opportunity.
But this doesn’t mean that you should avoid a home business opportunity altogether. What you need to learn is how to protect yourself from online job offer scams. Here are seven tips to get you started:
1. ALWAYS SEEK OUT OPPORTUNITIES FROM LEGITIMATE WEBSITES
There are over a hundred websites on the internet that offer to teach you how to make money on the internet, or hook you up with home business opportunities– some are good and some are a bit shady. Typically, people that would scam you have not invested a lot of time in a single website. They know that eventually someone will catch on, their internet host will ban them, Google will drop them in the rankings, or their scam will no longer work. For this reason, it’s good to look for sites that have a significant amount of information regarding the work at home opportunity.
2. NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION THROUGH E-MAIL
More and more legitimate companies ask for a potential employee’s personal information such as home phone number. But no matter how much you trust the company or the employer, never give out passwords to important accounts, credit card or social security information, and obscure information that may be used to claim assets from your bank accounts (such as your mother’s maiden name).
If the company’s representative start asking you personal questions that no longer seem to relate to the job at hand, it is best to bail out – you might just find yourself getting scammed.
3. EXAMINE THE QUALITY OF THE WEBSITE
This is not always true but general observations state that a poorly designed website with awful grammar, syntax, and spelling usually point to a scamming company or group. Most scammers wouldn’t go the extra mile to maintain a presentable website with high-quality texts.
You may also want to double-check the information claimed on the home business opportunity website. For example, if in the website, it is claimed that the company is based on the United States, check the website’s registration details. You can do this by going to www.whois.com and typing and the website’s name on the search bar. Information about the domain name registrant should appear. If it states an address or country apart from the website’s claim, the company may very likely be linked to fraud.
4. RESEARCH THE COMPANY
Go to different search engines and search for the company’s name. If nothing negative comes out, you can try searching with this keyword added: “scam”. Read the forums, user reviews, and review them carefully. This should help you determine whether the offer is a scam or not. But remember, just because one or two people say that a site is a scam does not mean it is. Often, a competitor will try and ruin their competition by making false claims about a company.
5. IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT MOST LIKELY IS
Never trust websites that promise you instant cash in days or weeks without having to work. Money doesn’t fall from the sky and companies definitely don’t just give away cash either. If you want to earn, you have to work for it.
Yes, the internet has some benefits over offline office work. It may be able to make you a millionaire over time, but it can’t turn you into an overnight millionaire. Home business opportunities aren’t a get-rich-quick scheme. Just like everybody else, you have to work if you want to earn – whether you are offline or online.
6. DON’T COUNT OUT HOME BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAY BE LEGITIMATE
Besides work at home opportunities for freelancers, there are lots of home business opportunities like answering surveys, affiliate marketing, making money on eBay, etc. Many of these sites are a legitimate home business opportunity. There are thousands of people succeeding at all of these. However, like anything on the internet, some are scams. For these types of opportunities, look for advice. There are several Home Business Opportunity review sites on the internet that offer good information on 3rd party sites. Look at their reviews.
7. REMEMBER, THERE’S NO FREE LUNCH
Do you know why most people don’t make it with any type of entrepreneurial venture? It’s because they don’t try, and they don’t persevere. Their lack of self confidence and doubts stop them before they can make it. Then they blame their failure on their teacher, or home business opportunity website or anywhere but themselves. Don’t be that person! Find a real home business opportunity and give it everything you have. If they offer coaching – get it! Don’t believe the doubts that will inevitably crop up in your mind. The first doubt you’ll have, without a doubt, will be your doubt in the home business educational product you bought. You’ll think “I don’t know, maybe this is a scam, it isn’t working.” At the first difficulty you encounter. Failure is counting on you doing this – don’t!
